About the Faculty
The Faculty is a Financial University teaching and research division. It is a recognized leader in financial expert training. It offers bachelor degree programs in Economics with the concentration in Financial Markets and Banks and master degree programs in Economics with the concentration in Securities and Financial Engineering and Infrastructure Financing and in Finance and Lending with the concentrations in Modern Banking and Risk Management in a Commercial Bank, Financial Economics and Monetary Regulation, Financial Mathematics and Market Analysis. Highly-qualified personnel is trained at the Faculty who could work at financial market institutions, e.g. non-bank financial and lending institutions, commercial banks, monetary and financial market regulatory authorities, financial markets, financial departments of industrial companies. The Faculty is one of the largest Financial University Faculties. Many students study here. It is also the oldest Faculty. The Faculty instructors and graduates make a significant contribution to Russia's financial market formation and development.
Mission
The key Faculty goal is to train highly-qualified experts who have a deep theoretical and practical knowledge of the monetary and lending sector, securities market and derivatives market, who meet the demands of the modern labor market where the private sector and the public sector representatives are present.
The degree-awarding Department
The Department of Financial Markets and Banks was opened as per the Financial University Academic Council resolution (minutes No. 44 of 26 May 2016). It established strong long-standing partnerships with the Bank of Russia, leading commercial banks and banking associations, development banks and investment institutions, stock exchanges and securities market players, bank consulting and audit companies.
Department specific features and competitive advantages
The Faculty bachelor and master programs are based on the modern educational standards, learning modes, technologies, curricula and information systems. The program curricula include fundamental economic disciplines and applied disciplines. The Faculty highly-qualified instructors ensure high quality of provision. Many of the instructors have extensive experience as the field practitioners.
The Faculty students do the research thus ensuing acquisition of the skills necessary for performing analysis in the financial market.
The requirements of educational standards, including the standards for training securities market experts, corporate lending experts, financial consulting experts and other standards were taken into account when the program curricula were formed.
The staff of the Moscow Stock Exchange and the Department of Banking Automation and Information Technologies are engaged in the teaching process at the Faculty.
The Faculty students have an opportunity to study in the University of London (UK) while participating in the University international programs or the Université Grenoble Alpes (France) and participate in the student academic mobility programs launched in partnership with the universities in the UK, USA, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, China and many other countries.
Graduate employment
Our graduates acquire fundamental knowledge of economics and finance and can use their potential when working in the financial and banking sector and in audit, consulting, foreign trade and industrial companies. History of the Faculty
The development of the Faculty of Financial Markets is inextricably intertwined with the history of the Financial University. It was called the Faculty of Lending and Economics before June 30, 2017. The Faculty development process has run in parallel with the Russian economy and financial and lending system formation process.
The history of the Faculty dates back to the Moscow Institute of Finance and Economics formation in 1919. It was the first Russian financial expert-training institution. It was supposed to resolve the issues of training experts in finance and economics in the new management system formation and social and economic regime building period.
The next Faculty development stage begins on September 17, 1946, when the Moscow Financial Institute, a higher education institution of the first class, was formed as a result of a merger of the Moscow Institute of Finance and Economics and the Moscow Institute of Lending and Economics. Four Faculties were opened, including the Faculty of Lending and Economics.
The Faculty of Lending and Economics (the Institute for Lending) was part of the Faculty of Finance and Lending from July 1, 2007 to January 24, 2013. The Faculty of Finance and Lending was established as a result of merger of institutes of finance, insurance business, lending, and financial management. It performed the Faculty's functions until the formation of an independent Faculty of Financial Management in mid-2009.
In early 2013, the Faculty of Finance and Lending was divided into two independent Faculties, the Faculty of Economics and Lending and the Faculty of Economics and Finance, during the reorganization launched as per Government Decree No. 677 of 02 May 2012.
The Faculty of Economics and Lending has been an independent Financial University Faculty since January 25, 2013.
The Faculty of Economics and Lending has changed its name to the Faculty of Financial Markets on June 30, 2017.
Faculty Deans
Throughout the history of its development, the Faculty Deans were the major scholars and the leading practitioners who occupied top positions in financial and lending institutions. Many of the Deans were our University graduates and after retiring from their positions as Deans they headed other divisions. Some of them hold the divisions' heads' position now.

Teaching and learning
Today, the Faculty has the following programs on offer:
Bachelor degree programs in Economics (with the concentration in Banking and Securities Market (enrolment: as of 2014); Banking and Financial Markets (enrolment: as of 2015); Financial Markets and Banks (enrolment: as of 2016))
Master degree programs in Economics (with the concentration in Securities and Financial Engineering) and in Finance and Lending (with the concentration in Modern Banking and Management Models; Risk Management in a Commercial Bank; Financial Economics and Monetary Regulation; Financial Mathematics and Market Analysis).
As of 2018, the Faculty will offer a master degree program in Economics (with the concentration in Financing Infrastructure) and a master degree program in Finance and Lending (with the concentration in Modern Banking and Risk Management in a Commercial Bank).
Career guidance
Employees, teaching staff and students of the Faculty of Financial Markets participate in career guidance events. They organize thematic master classes for secondary school students and prospective students in the schools they support; they participate in the University and Faculty open door days; they inform secondary school students and prospective students about the upcoming events.
International partners
The Faculty students have an opportunity to study in the University of London (Great Britain) while participating in the University international programs or the University of Grenoble Alpes (France). There are student exchange programs launched in cooperation with the universities of the UK, USA, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, China and many other countries.
The Faculty Academic Council
The Academic Council of the Faculty of Financial Markets is a representative body. Acting in accordance with the Financial University rector' order, it controls the Faculty's operations and the operations of the divisions reporting to the Academic Council.
