Russia-ASEAN Education Forum was held on 21 October 2019 within the framework of the 12th Convention of the Russian International Studies Association (RISA) on the premises of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Anatoly Torkunov, Rector of the MGIMO University, offered a welcoming address. He spoke about the steady development of humanitarian ties between the Russian Federation and the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). He said the action plan for the period of up to 2025 was implemented in the field of science, technology, and innovation development. He added it was very important to organize education and university forums on a regular basis.
Maxim Kotelnikov, Deputy Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, took part in the Forum. H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sport of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Leonor Mirasol Magtolis-Briones, Secretary of the Department of Education the Republic of the Philippines, were among the guests.
The opening plenary session was attended by H.E. Robert Matheus Michael Tene , Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs, and Pavel Zenkovich, First Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation.
During the first day of the Forum, the best practices gained in higher, secondary and elementary education, cooperation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training and cooperation in teaching Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and student mobility program organizational practices were discussed.
More than 60 representatives of Ministries and education institutions of the ASEAN countries participated in the Forum. Sirius Education Center, Ocean All-Russia Children's Center, Stavropol School No. 45 and Dubinin Boarding School for Talented Children were the Russian representatives at the Forum.
